Presence Changes Us
“…didn’t you realize that your body is a sacred place, the place of the Holy Spirit? Don’t you see that you can’t live however you please, squandering what God paid such a high price for? The physical part of you is not some piece of property belonging to the spiritual part of you.
God owns the whole works. So let people see God in and through your body.”
-1 Corinthians 6:19-20
For those who are living as “Children of light”; for those who experience God’s presence; who are becoming more and more “Christ-like”, for these followers of Jesus, they find that what they do with their bodies changes.
“their bodies come over to the side of their will to do good” (Willard)
Our bodies do what is right and good. And it comes naturally. What we are tempted to do with our bodies no longer has power over us. We instinctively choose the right thing to do. We are no longer trapped by what we say, by our facial expressions, by what we do with our hands, by what we watch.
Our bodies change. Today as you fast from whatever, consider how you use your body. What is your body given over to? Is your body enslaved to a destructive habit? Do you regret the things you say? Does you ‘body-language’ create conflict? Are you caring for the body God has given you? The body in which His Presence dwells.
