This is ADVENT, it comes from the latin adventus, meaning coming or arrival. It is the four week season of preparation for the coming of Jesus at Christmas. A good celebration requires proper preparation.
During December we mostly confuse this readiness with a ridiculous and stressful race into christmas with excessive shopping and excessive eating. The quiet reflection of advent is often lost in the noise and busyness of the lead up to Christmas. “Buy more stuff. Buy more than last year.”
John the Baptist was the “anti-santa” of the day. “Prepare the way for the Lord” he shouted across the river Jordan. (Matthew 3)
“People get ready” for the Messiah.
Advent makes us stop and get ready. To look at the clutter and busyness of our lives and reflect. Advent is a Holy season, a time to reflect on what it means to “be holy”.
Advent is a season of expectant waiting. Tapping into a sense we have that, ‘all is not well”. A longing for the world to be made right again. It’s a season for restless hearts and people weary of a broken world who want, with all of our being, to know there’s more than this. It is a time for hope.
I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope. Ps 130:5
We hope for restoration.
We hope for the renewal of all things.
It’s also a time of adventure. Something is about to happen in your life. Do you dare to share the experience…
This season why not share in a Global Advent Calendar with #cvadvent #AdventWord
